Fishhook Beach Scenes

Today I tattooed an entire family with traditional beach tattoos.  It was really fun and we worked late into the day.  Here are six of them...

Then I got a late night walk-in for another beach scene!  Today was really fantastic.

Tiki

The client picked this right off my fun wall, and I had a really good time working on this.

Polynesian & Baby Turtle

Today was a fucking great day.  I tattooed all day non stop for 13 hours.  This is the best life, and these two tattoos are my favorites of the day.

Firefighters Carabiner

Last October we had a brush fire right behind our neighborhood.  The fire was directly across the street and with the high winds some of the sparks flew into our neighborhood and started small fires all over.  The area was evacuated for a day and we felt like we barely got out in time.  I ran home from work, ran into a friend and his girl on the road who raced me back the rest of the way so we could get the dogs out just before they closed off the neighborhood.  There was so much smoke that I couldn’t see through the house it was so thick.  The fire department really saved the neighborhood, so Athena and I dropped off some stuff to the fire department as a mahalo for saving the neighborhood.  The client is a fireman and he wanted this tattoo to be one of the lessons he earned on the job.  I tattooed his carabiner with the acronym SSFK slow and steady fast kills. This is the final session on this forearm band.  It was a really cool tattoo to work on, and the clients a cool sci fi geeks at heart.

Memorial

My friends son passed away from heart problems tied to his disability.  It is beyond tragic, and I loved that kid.  This is a duck from the book that my friend read to him often.

Mahalo Lyric, you taught me some cool stuff in the very short time I knew you.

Orchid Fish

This was fun and strange, an orchid flower with fish bones as the stem.  Athena called it “flish” for the fun of it.  Today was a crazy busy day, and this is no favorite tattoo of the day.

Punk Rock Turtle

Getting back from my quick trip to the main land jet lagged me pretty hard, and I came back to two booked solid days.  I was over booked really, working from 9am until 11:30pm straight tattooing with no breathing between appointments.  I normally like being over booked, however my trip really took all of my energy out of me and today was a really hard day. Athena and Siobhan worked the from of the shop and game me assists when I asked making the day go pretty smooth.  I did 11 hand sized tattoos today and this is my favorite tattoo of the day.

Even though today was pretty hard on me, I had a good time and met some great people from Ottawa who really connected with me.

Shaka

I have had an insanely busy beginning to 2020.  The studio has been over booked and I have found myself working late every night.  I also had to fly top Minnesota for 4 days to help family while Athena ran the studio.  The day before I flew out I tattooed straight from 8:30am to 9:30pm.  Today was fun, and again pretty busy.  This was my favorite tattoo of the day.

Pictures From A Collector

A collector of my work sent me these pics today.  She recently redid her home and wanted these to have a prominent spot on her walls.

I like seeing my work being cared for.

Bear

I have not drawn a bear in years, I just don’t get asked to tattoo one in Hawaii.  It was kinda a challenge to work on.  My clients idea was to represent his wedding, which was bear themed.

Hawaii #7 “I Had To Buy Shoes”

I finished the painting at the last hour.  This was a challenge to complete by the year, and as I was working on it I got two walk-in tattoos that each wanted something slightly complex.  I put my brushes down, did a couple of tattoos and then completed the painting.  I signed it 2020 as I finished it today.

I become a character who’s construct reflects the thing in its entirety.  Every aspect of my daily life is that character, that idea.  My paintings are titled directly what I want you the audience to see.  Simply understand the words and look at the painting.  No exegesis whatsoever is needed.

This is my preferred orientation of the piece.  All of my paintings can be hung with any side as the top, however I always have my favorite view.
