New Peloponnesian War studies

Here are some more composition studies for my Peloponnesian War oil painting.
I would like it to be 36" x 60" oil on linen.
I intend to work my technical clean line work with some lose expressionist elements.

These are simple ink studies and not all of them will be chosen for the final composition.

New Peloponnesian War studies

I have been reading Thucydides works on the Peloponnesian War again, in an attempt to gain a better understanding of world conflicts.  I see the Peloponnesian as a world war in that it had direct consequences on all of the Greek world at the time.
These are a few simple ink studies for my Peloponnesian War painting.  I have started working on the total negative space composition, and I will have the compositional elements complete by the end of the month.  Maybe...

Progress has been made on my new painting

I was able to get some serious work done this evening.  I started painting at 5:30 PM, and finished working around 3:30 AM.  Quite a productive night.  I expect my formal work on this piece to be complete by the end of March.  Albeit, there is a huge amount of work to do simply to establish the overall composition.

Minneapolis #? "Penitent Magdelene"
All of these new color-forms will have to be strengthened once they dry.

Here is my Subject-matter, an oil painting I have been observing for almost a year at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.

Studio #7 - 1915 2nd Avenue South #13

To continue on with the series of posts about my studios, here is where I am working now.  My 7th studio in Minneapolis is a top floor, 800 square-foot, 1 bedroom corner apartment in Stevens Square.  It is pretty nice, so I will kept it nice.

I have been able to really dig into my series of works titled BitTorent, but no telling how soon I will have them Finished.

Just finished this, yep its cool.

Its funny

Chris and I looking at my new work, he likes it.

I am talking about the painting...
...I talk a lot.

I completed one of my major compositions at this studio.  BitTorrent #2 "Marinuis Van der Lubbe as Icarus."  To me this painting was a crowning achievement in what I wanted to paint next.

Laugh all you want, this painting was and is a major accomplishment for me.  I do take it that seriously, and then I tend to giggle about it later.

Thanks for reading...
...I will keep you up to date about my antics in this new studio.

Studies for a figurative

I am working on a nude figurative for a client this week.  These are a few of the ink improvisation studies I have been playing around with.

I am still undecided...
...I am just going to have to improve some until I find what I want.

Hand study in pencil and poetry

Falling back into poetry again.  I was working on my book, "Iodized Salt," and I just wandered off and came up with this quick study.

Pencil on paper.  2006.

Iodized Salt will eventually be completed...
...as soon as my composition is chosen.

Series of Paintings: "Improvisations"

Let's start off this blog with a look at my past in the arts.

This series of paintings was created from 1997-1998, (I am really unsure as to the actual dates.)  These works were my first real attempt to study abstraction.

In 1997 I was working at Starbucks on 50th and France Avenue.  I would paint some landscapes or still-lifes and bring them to work and show them off to all the costumers, who might I add were older wealthy house wives who love impressionistic works of art (of course they do, Van Gogh works of art are on coffee cups everywhere).  I actually loved that job, my coworkers were cool, fun to be with and honest, and its coffee man, seriously do I need to explain that?  So one day I just up and quit.  A costumer came in and asked for some cardboard boxes to move with.  I checked, but we didn't have any, and wow was she mad.  She threw her latte on the floor, screamed at me about how she called the day before and asked us to hold the old boxes for her... bla bla bla; what an entitled little cunt.  I wasn't mad, I just wanted something different so I handed the store keys to my GM and left.

I went home that day and stared at my paintings I was working on at the time.  I was using acrylic paint then, and I was almost out.  I did have a box of old oil paints that my grandmother, Virginia, gave me years before, but no solvent and no brushes.  I did have a few palette knives I could work with.

So after looking at the oil colors, three large blank canvases, and the palette knives, I just simply started putting oil paint on the canvas.  I worked for several days straight, until I had finished all of the paintings.  I worked on this series for the next year+ straight, completing 60+ canvases.  I only have records of 50 of them.

There is really no artist statement here.
